A unique clubhouse - hexagonal in shape - commands the high ground above the lush parkland on which you will shortly do battle here. To be strictly correct, it’s much closer to a recreational stretch of legs and arms than a battle, partly because of the tranquil setting, but more so because at 5,800 yards or thereby, this is no strength-sapping venue. Indeed, with four par threes on the outward nine and only two other holes over 400 yards, it is strategy, rather than brawn, which must be favoured. You need to take advantage of these factors, because the back nine is much longer (four shots more to par) than the front nine, while four terrific finishing holes might well require every club in the bag. The club is justifiably proud of its connection with Paul Lawrie, who cut his teeth here as a junior
