Auchenblae
The most southerly - and most rural - of Aberdeen and Grampian’s golfing opportunities is also one of its most quaint. I still ask myself, even after establishing that this little cracker of a course was popular with villagers and visitors alike, how on earth it survives in a location that is well off the beaten track of well-known venues! Survive it certainly does, with a lot of voluntary effort, and a great deal of care in the presentation of the nine holes. The opening threesome, a recent development, have made the remainder much more challenging. With four par threes and the longest par four stretching but a modest 362 yards, it’s the short game that is crucial to success. Subject to searches for lost balls (there might be a few) you can complete nine holes here in less than ninety minutes. It’s a real treat - and lots of fun.
