Alford
Some forty minutes west of the Granite City lies the scenically attractive course of Alford. There is interest aplenty with trees, burns and even Grampian Transport Museum’s miniature railway intruding to add a bit of spice to the normal golfing features and hazards! Unsurprisingly, this is a very popular venue for those who are not hell-bent on tearing round the place in two and a half hours before rushing home for breakfast. The mood is quiet and relaxed, with tee shots inevitably requiring to avoid a host of young trees (though do not panic, as there’s plenty room all around them) and if your driving is on song, the pleasure of hitting approach shots from lovely lush fairways onto welcoming greens is guaranteed. At around 5500 yards, the emphasis is on the short game although if the golf lets you down, there’s always the miniature railway to cheer you up!
