Fraserburgh (Rosehill)
In total contrast to its big brother, the nine holes of the Rosehill course are a pleasant saunter on pretty flat hinterland, out of reach of and across the main road from the dunes and rollicking links of the Corbie. With but one solitary challenge over 400 yards, it is designed to sharpen up the short game or provide some relaxation for the less ambitious combatants among the golfing fraternity. The flatness of most of the layout, however, means that judgement of distance to pin positions is rendered pretty difficult. There will inevitably be regular need for improvisation, while the traditional pitch and run will work overtime, and smallish greens put emphasis on accurate approach play. Six par threes over an eighteen-hole trip inevitably create delusions of grandeur on the tee, with the 96 yard fourth a little gem everyone expects to defeat - but rarely do.
