The summer months echo with the sound of bagpipes at Highland Games and long days and light nights allow plenty of time to get out and explore.

 WORD 2010 - The University of Aberdeen Writers Festival held in the beautiful surroundings of Old Aberdeen in May. This year WORD celebrates its 10th anniversary!

Taste of Grampian 2010 - Check out the region's fantastic range of producers at this ever more popular one day food festival on 5th June. Celebrity chef demonstrations and plenty of opportunity to sample the local produce - a fantastic day out.

The Scottish Traditional Boat Festival in Portsoy on 26th-27th June offers visitors a superb array of maritime history and heritage, traditional arts and crafts and a delicious food fayre.

Houdini, the famous magician, performed one of his greatest escapes in Aberdeen harbour on 1 July 1909. A large crowd gathered to see him chained, handcuffed and thrown into the sea.
