Wherever
you travel in Grampian, remember that the past is
all around, from the coastal promontories protected
long ago by palisades and ditches, to the vitrified
walls of forts on heathery hilltops. By using your
imagination and your eyes - the most important tool
of the archaeologist - you will learn to read the
landscape in a different and exciting way. |

Amid
the farming landscapes of Scotland's north east, and
on the hill tops and heathlands, evidence of the past
is there for all to see. Sometimes these stories in
the stone are incomplete or have meanings we can only
guess at - but they suggest that our ancestors - like
ourselves - tended to some kind of spiritual life,
wished for good fortune, desired to protect family
and worked together in community.
