Area Guide / Aberdeen City

Historic
Aberdeen is a city of many names and it’s easy to see how it gets its most popular one – The Granite City. The impressive turreted Town House in Union Street, the castellated Citadel at The Castlegate and the striking gothic Marischal College, the worlds second largest granite structure, are all fine examples of Aberdeen's most famous export.

Uncover the history of Old Aberdeen by visiting the 500 year old University King’s College, or visit Provost Skene's House, Aberdeen's oldest private town house. The Aberdeen Art Gallery boasts inclusions by impressionists Monet, Pisarro and Renoir and a host of fabulous visiting exhibitions across the year.

Visitors to Aberdeen's three key attractions: Provost Skene's House, Aberdeen Art Gallery and the Aberdeen Maritime Museum will all enjoy free entrance.

Shopping
Aberdeen's famous 'Granite Mile' - Union Street - is the gateway to over 800 shops, from the latest designer fashions to traditional Scottish crafts, all the best known High Street names have outlets in the city and you’ll find them all in the five main indoor shopping centres. The Mall Trinity, St Nicholas and Bon Accord are the largest, whilst the Galleria and The Academy have a range of more intimate boutique style shops. Why not shop till you drop at some of the more individual outlets?

Eating
Abound with food from all corners of the globe - Mexican, Italian, Greek, Indian, Thai, French, Hungarian…. not to forget native Scottish fare, in Aberdeen’s thriving city centre you’ll find all the big name coffee shops and restaurants, but also quaint, traditional tea-rooms and family run bistros.
