Tarland is a quiet village with an attractive central square. A number of prehistoric sites are within easy reach including Culsh Earth House, a Bronze Age below-ground dwelling, and Tomnaverie Stone Circle. The Nature Reserve at Muir of Dinnet lies to the west. Other attractions in the area include Lumphanan Peel Ring and the Millers Visitor Centre.
